A common adversary in the Otherland network. Shaders have a variety of forms and appearances, each with their own special abilities. They are somehow responsible for the damage to the network.
As explained by Fredericks in The strong die: "Shaders are broken pieces of simulations that, because of sheer luck, managed to create a sort of consciousness. It's not real AI but it has potential. Its goal is to gather more code and grow."
